Welcome to The Geek Therapist
Ian is a therapist with eight plus years of experience; from Addiction in Rehabilitation centres to working in Schools within the Liverpool area. During this time Ian has learned to practice Cognitive behavioural therapy, Dialectical behavioural therapy, and integrative therapies. Ian’s clientele ranges from young children to adults dealing with various mental health issues.
Ian prides himself on providing a safe and supportive environment when speaking with anyone in a session. During the 50-minute sessions Ian is fair but also challenging as it is important that each person reaches their full potential in therapy.
Before becoming a therapist, Ian worked with Merseyside police and explored his own therapeutic journey whilst dealing with mental/physical issues. This has given him an insight into how therapy has changed over the last decade and gives a unique perspective to helping people move forward in life.
“Ian is a patient, understanding, and kind individual with expansive experience in substance abuse. I cannot more highly recommend him as a therapist.”
“Working with Ian definitely helped me sort some things out, he was always very responsive and understanding and put a lot of effort in to understand my problems or guide me through options to work on it.”
What People Are Saying
Ian has helped identify root cause of some of my issues. I had gone into session with my own assumptions but I didn’t realize truth of issues until meeting with Ian. He is very responsive and connects by messaging between meetings which I appreciate.

Ian is really a good mentor and a calm person, he was always very prompt about all my queries and doubts, he helped me to look at things in different and positive ways. Thankyou for being my support during my low time Ian Smith. All the good wishes for you.

Ian's fantastic! He really helped me get through a pretty rough patch. I quite enjoyed his style - he's easy to talk to, and knows when to listen and when to challenge. There were moments where he'd say something that seemed fairly innocuous at first, but were ultimately quite profound and had me looking at my life from a completely different angle. I'd happily work with him again any time!
